The McLaren Flint Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program is a five-year ACGME-accredited allopathic program affiliated with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Established in 1973, this program offers a comprehensive orthopaedic surgery training in a community-based setting. Residents have the opportunity to rotate through various orthopaedic sub-specialties, including trauma, adult reconstruction, pediatrics, spine, hand and upper extremity, oncology, sports medicine, shoulder and elbow, foot and ankle, and general orthopaedics.

Residents at McLaren Flint Medical Center benefit from protected daily didactics, weekly grand rounds conference, monthly journal clubs, as well as skills labs and cadaveric sessions for hands-on learning experiences. Clinical rotations take place at McLaren Flint, Hurley Medical Center, Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane, Washington, and University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, among others. The program emphasizes developing clinical and surgical skills, as well as conducting research projects with mentorship from the core faculty.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are well-prepared to enter practice or pursue fellowships.
