Beaumont Health (Farmington Hills) Program

The Emergency Medicine residency program at Beaumont Health in Farmington Hills is a three-year program that aims to develop residents into mature and responsible emergency medicine specialists. The training standards align with those set by the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine (ACOEP) and the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Residents are monitored through supervision and continual evaluation to ensure they meet the criteria to practice as osteopathic emergency physicians.

Residents in the program are expected to be qualified and eligible for certification by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). Residents are provided with support for obtaining certifications such as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS). The program includes weekly educational sessions covering various topics such as book reviews, journal reviews, morbidity, and mortality reviews, and special lectures. Attendance at these weekly educational programs is mandatory for all residents.

Evaluation of resident performance is conducted quarterly by the Program Director and core faculty members. Residents are required to maintain rotation logs that document their activities, including readings, cases seen, special procedures performed, and lectures attended. These logs are submitted to the Residency Program Director and are essential for credentialing purposes post-residency.
