The Augusta Health Internal Medicine Residency Program at Augusta Health is dedicated to training physicians in the art and science of compassionate and evidence-based medicine within a high-quality, community-based healthcare system. The program offers an engaging didactic curriculum and dynamic inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences. Modeled on a 3+1 block schedule, residents rotate through 3 weeks of inpatient and subspecialty rotations followed by 1 week of outpatient medicine. The program aims to create exceptional educational experiences emphasizing compassionate patient care, a deep understanding of the science of medicine, and a commitment to clinical and academic excellence. Residents will also have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Shenandoah Valley region, offering various recreational and cultural activities.
The program offers a variety of rotations, including inpatient internal medicine, night float, ICU, cardiology, emergency medicine, and various electives. There is a comprehensive continuity clinic where residents serve as primary physicians for a panel of patients. The curriculum includes a variety of conferences and didactic topics to enhance learning and professional development.
The program supports diversity by welcoming both D.O. and M.D. graduates, as well as international medical graduates. They offer visa sponsorship and have no designated minimum USMLE score requirement. The program will start accepting applications through the NRMP for the March 2024 match, with the first interns scheduled to begin in July 2024. They have plans to offer 10 internal medicine internship positions and aim to grow to 15 residents per year in the future.
