The Transitional Year Residency Program at Baptist Health - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (BH-UAMS) is committed to training residents who require a broad-based clinical year before entering a specific specialty training program. The program emphasizes individualized clinical training with a focus on wellness, experiential learning in patient safety, and quality improvement. Residents work alongside categorical residents in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine programs.
Application requirements for the program include submitting a completed application through ERAS, a Medical School Transcript from the past 10 years, USMLE/COMLEX Transcript showing passing scores on STEP 1 and 2 exams (excluding CS), an ECFMG certificate if applicable, Dean's Letter (MSPE), three Letters of Recommendation, and a Personal Statement. The program does not sponsor visas for International Medical Graduates.
The curriculum includes 12 one-month blocks, with rotations in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Ambulatory Clinic, and various electives like Anesthesia, Critical Care, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, and more. Didactic education, simulation training, and a focus on safety, wellness, and quality are integral parts of the program.
The Program Director, Dr. Jamie Pinto, leads an experienced faculty team that provides comprehensive mentorship to residents. Residents are employees of Baptist Health, with competitive stipends based on PGY level.
