Centerstone Program

Prospective residents are welcomed to the Psychiatry Residency Program at Centerstone in Bradenton, Florida. This program immerses residents into a comprehensive training regime structured through a community mental health center, accompanied by a behavioral health and substance abuse treatment facility, which caters to a diverse patient base across various demographics. A holistic approach enables residents to provide care to adults, children, and an increasing geriatric population while developing both clinical and compassionate skills necessary for psychiatric practice.

The Psychiatry Residency Program is ACGME accredited and spans four years, focusing on general psychiatry with opportunities to explore subspecialization. Key areas of training include community mental health, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, and addiction services, aimed at developing ethical, clinical, and professional competencies in residents. Comprehensive training across the lifespan in crisis hospitals, acute care settings, residential programs, outpatient care, and forensic psychiatry are part of the curriculum.

Curriculum Structure

Each year of the program introduces varied rotations, ensuring diverse exposure:

PGY-1 Rotations:

• Internal Medicine (4 months)
• Neurology (2 months)
• Geriatric Psychiatry (3 months)
• Inpatient Psychiatry (4 months)

These experiences occur at Manatee Memorial Hospital and Centerstone Hospital, focusing on patients experiencing acute psychiatric illnesses.

PGY-2 Rotations:

• Addiction Psychiatry (3 months)
• Child/Adolescent Psychiatry (3 months)
• Inpatient Psychiatry (5 months)
• Consult/Liaison Psychiatry (1 month)

Residents engage with various modalities, including emergency and forensic psychiatry.

PGY-3 Rotations:

• Outpatient Psychiatry (12 months)

This year concentrates on outpatient care and integrates forensic psychiatry and individual psychotherapy.

PGY-4 Rotations:

• Community Psychiatry (2 months)
• Outpatient Psychiatry (1 month)
• Electives and Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry (5 months)

Research Opportunities
