STEP 219 Visa J1

The Psychiatry Residency Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) provides a comprehensive training experience in multiple inpatient and outpatient facilities to mold well-rounded psychiatrists. What sets this program apart is the emphasis on forming strong working relationships due to the smaller program size, fostering mentorship and collaboration amongst residents and attending physicians.

During the program, residents will train at various institutions including Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Virginia Beach Community Services Board, and Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, among others. These training sites offer exposure to diverse patient populations and a wide range of psychiatric conditions, allowing for a robust learning experience.

The program application process requires completion of an application through ERAS and participation in the National Residency Matching Program. Applicants must have passed USMLE Step 1 and 2 or COMLEX Step 1 and 2 with at most one failure in total. Additionally, applicants should be U.S. citizens, green card holders, or J-1 visa holders sponsored by EVMS. International Medical Graduates need to be ECFMG-certified and have U.S. psychiatry experience.

Furthermore, the Psychiatry Residency at EVMS offers competitive benefits packages for residents and fellows, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, and disability insurance.

Overall, EVMS Psychiatry Residency Program provides a supportive learning environment where residents can develop their clinical skills, foster professional relationships, and gain diverse experiences that contribute to their growth as future psychiatrists.
