STEP 240Fellowship Focused

The General Surgery Residency Program at Riverside Community Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare GME, offers a comprehensive five-year ACGME fully accredited clinical program. The program emphasizes a balance between university academics and community clinical experience to prepare residents for competent surgical practice or competitive subspecialty fellowships upon completion.

Applicants are required to have passed both Step 1 and Step 2 of the USMLE. Application documents include the MyERAS application, CV, personal statement, transcripts, Dean's letter, three letters of recommendation, photo, and official USMLE/COMLEX scores.

The program focuses on developing residents' comprehensive knowledge base, clinical decision-making abilities, technical skills, and judgment in general surgery. Residents are exposed to progressively-graded clinical and operative experiences. The curriculum includes rotations in general, thoracic, vascular, surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, trauma, acute care surgery, surgical critical care, and various other specialties.

Throughout the program, residents are encouraged to acquire professional habits, demonstrate compassionate patient care, and engage in self-study and continuing education. The salary for residents ranges from $76,660 (PGY1) to $86,282 (PGY5), with additional benefits provided.

Under the leadership of Program Director Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud, the Riverside Community Hospital General Surgery Residency Program aims to mold residents into skilled surgical leaders while maintaining a focus on resident wellness and superior, patient-centered training.
