The HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood Transitional Year residency program offers a one-year postgraduate training opportunity for 13 residents. The program is designed to prepare residents for subsequent residencies in other specialties by providing a well-rounded experience in various clinical settings. The curriculum includes exposure to surgical and medical subspecialties, didactic sessions, USMLE/COMLEX Step 3 review sessions, journal clubs, and training in the business of medicine.

Residents will have the chance to engage in scholarly activities, simulation labs, and procedure workshops. The program aims to equip residents with fundamental clinical skills to excel in advanced training programs in fields like dermatology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology, anesthesiology, and more. Training takes place at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, a 450-bed acute care hospital with a team of dedicated faculty members focused on educating future physicians.

The Transitional Year residency program follows a curriculum that meets ACGME requirements and provides residents with diverse clinical training experiences to prepare them for diverse patient populations in different healthcare settings. Residents have the opportunity to advance their clinical skills, engage in scholarly activities, and work with a team dedicated to their education and professional growth.

The program Director, Dr. Rachel Hogan, leads the faculty and staff in creating an educational environment that supports residents' individualized learning needs. The team aims to expand residents' perspectives by promoting inclusivity of cultures, values, and ideals in healthcare delivery.

The required rotations at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood include Emergency Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, ICU, Inpatient Wards, General Surgery, Cardiology, and Night Float. Elective rotations in various specialties are also available to enhance residents' training experiences.

Residents in the program receive a salary of $58,677 during their PGY1 year along with benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, retirement contributions, equipment provisions, on-call meal stipends, PTO, and paid leave. Additionally, Step 3 reimbursement is provided to support residents in their educational journey.
