The General Surgery Residency Program at Maimonides Medical Center provides a comprehensive training experience aimed at producing well-qualified, technically excellent surgeons who deliver compassionate patient care. Residents benefit from a wide variety of cases across all specialties, extensive operative experience including robotic surgery, and exposure to culturally diverse communities in Brooklyn.

The program offers a structured curriculum that includes grand rounds, core lectures, multidisciplinary conferences, and educational activities like simulation labs and journal clubs. Residents receive training in various areas such as colorectal, breast, ENT, pediatric, bariatric, vascular, thoracic, and surgical oncology.

Maimonides Medical Center requires applicants to submit three letters of recommendation along with Step 1 and Step 2 scores. They prefer a minimum score of 240 on the first attempt for Step 1 and Step 2 and require Step 3 to be completed by the match date if an H1B visa is necessary. The program sponsors H1B and J1 visas if needed. Previous U.S. experience is not required, and they have foreign medical graduates in their program.
