The National Capital Consortium (NCC) Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) is an integrated tri-service program accepting Army, Navy, and Air Force residency candidates. The program is designed to produce a renaissance pathologist capable of functioning in any pathology practice setting with a focus on professionalism, intellectual curiosity, ethical decision-making, education, and problem-solving.
This four-year residency program is fully accredited by the ACGME and features 22 months of required Anatomic Pathology rotations, 18 months of required Clinical Pathology training, and 8 months of specialty rotations, electives, and research. The program emphasizes an integrated approach to pathology, recognizing the importance of various diagnostic modalities in patient care.
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center has been designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, providing subspecialty cancer care to military personnel. The residency program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering surgical pathology, cytopathology, autopsy, forensic pathology, dermatopathology, neuropathology, pediatric pathology, transfusion medicine, microbiology, chemical pathology, hematopathology, and more.
Pathology rotations are available for interns and medical students, aiming to provide practical training applicable to various clinical settings and preparing trainees for internships or residencies. Interviews for residency candidates can be conducted on-site during rotations or by telephone, with all candidates required to interview with the Program Director. Prior to the interview, candidates must submit their Curriculum Vitae and a photograph to the provided address.
