Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center Program

The Pathology Residency program at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center offers training in combined anatomic and clinical pathology, anatomic pathology alone, or clinical pathology alone. The faculty is dedicated to educating residents through various experiences in anatomic, clinical, and experimental pathology. Residents participate in didactic lectures, presentations by visiting professors, unknown slide reviews, lab management case studies, and engage in conferences to enhance their diagnostic skills.

Residents have opportunities for clinical specialization, exposure to rare cases, and networking with leaders in the field. The program offers a mentoring program for career guidance, opportunities for biomedical research, and preparation for the evolving field of laboratory medicine. Application requirements include submitting materials via ERAS, such as a dean's letter, transcript, official USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 scores, and three letters of recommendation. Step 2 scores are required to be taken, passed, and received by February of the program entrance year. The program sponsors J-1 visas for international medical graduates with a valid ECFMG certificate.

The residency curriculum covers both anatomic and clinical pathology with elective rotations available. There is a strong emphasis on resident education, research opportunities, and quality improvement projects. The program has a high pass rate on Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology boards and offers ACGME-accredited fellowships in various specialties.
