The RUSH-Esperanza Family Medicine Residency program at Rush University aims to enhance the health of individuals, families, and historically oppressed communities through the training of outstanding family physicians in diverse settings. The program focuses on fostering a commitment to clinical excellence, team-based care, innovation, and population health through a lens of social justice and scientific advancement.

Application Process: - Applications are accepted from September to November through ERAS. - The application deadline and submission of required documents is November 30, 2023. - Application requirements include dean's letter, medical school transcripts, three letters of recommendation, USMLE transcripts, curriculum vitae, personal statement, and ECFMG Certificate if applicable. - Applicants must be graduates of a U.S., Canadian, or ECFMG accredited medical school within four years and eligible for licensure in Illinois. - The program encourages students from diverse backgrounds to apply and values individuals from underrepresented populations, different cultural and religious backgrounds, as well as LGBTQIA identifying individuals.

The program does not sponsor visas and aims to train family medicine physicians in multidisciplinary teams to care for patients from historically oppressed communities and address health inequities through a holistic approach.

Esperanza Health Centers is the clinical site for the residency program, and residents will receive training in a state-of-the-art clinical facility within one of Chicago's most medically vulnerable communities. The program also includes inpatient rotations at Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital.

The Rush-Esperanza Family Medicine Residency is aligned with the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program, reflecting its commitment to ensuring a relevant and sufficient supply of health workforce professionals while focusing on training physicians to address the needs of underserved communities.
