This program at South Georgia Medical Center is launching its Mercer University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program in July 2022. The partnership with Mercer University School of Medicine aims to elevate the health system and community health. The program has received approval from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and will educate 42 residents per year once fully operational. Residents will practice under the direct supervision of attending physicians to specialize and become board certified or board eligible in internal medicine. Additionally, the program will include a continuity clinic for residents to manage outpatient conditions and follow patients longitudinally. The focus is on training medical students to serve rural and underserved communities with the goal of retaining physicians in South Georgia.
