The Georgia South Psychiatry Residency Program at Colquitt Regional Medical Center has recently received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), making it the first program of its kind in South Georgia. The program is scheduled to start accepting applications and recruiting for its first class of residents who will begin in July 2022.
The residency program follows a four-year track with three new residents admitted each year. Residents will have the opportunity to rotate through various specialties, including primary care, emergency psychiatry, neurology, inpatient psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry. They will also undergo outpatient psychiatry rotations at partnering facilities, such as Colquitt Regional, Turning Point Hospital, Georgia Pines, the Colquitt County Jail, and Vandemark Psychiatry and Counseling.
Weekly didactic sessions will be organized for residents, medical students, and staff physicians, covering a range of topics relevant to psychiatry. The program aims to provide comprehensive training through hands-on experiences, rotations, didactic sessions, and exposure to different clinical settings.
Key faculty members of the program include Dr. Lisa Rudolph-Watson as Program Director, along with other experienced psychiatric professionals. The program has an emphasis on enhancing mental health services in South Georgia and promoting access to high-quality care in rural areas.
