TMC Health Medical Education Program, Inc. (THMEP) Program

The THMEP Internal Medicine Residency Program in Tucson, Arizona aims to produce well-educated, community-minded internists who provide effective, high-value, and compassionate care while supporting individual and societal well-being in a culturally diverse population. The three-year program accepts six PGY-1 residents annually, totaling 18 residents over three years. The curriculum includes structured hospital-based education supervised by hospitalists, intensivists, and emergency medicine physicians, as well as community-based training by office-based internists and subspecialists.

Residents have flexibility to select elective rotations tailored to their career goals. The program supports residents in creating educational experiences that align with their needs to become exceptional physicians.

Application requirements include the submission of the Dean’s letter, medical school transcript, CV, personal statement, USMLE or COMLEX scores, and three letters of recommendation. The program accepts applications only via the Electronic Residency Application Service and does not sponsor visas at this time. Interviews for the six PGY-1 positions are conducted from October to January.

The block schedule comprises rotations in inpatient medicine, outpatient medicine, and various internal medicine subspecialties across the three residency training years. Elective options cover diverse specialties such as Addiction, Dermatology, Hematology/Oncology, and Radiology.

Stipends for residents range from $61,508 for PGY-1 to $67,465 for PGY-3, along with additional annual stipends for benefits, education, and meal allowances. Residents receive four weeks of paid time off per year and have access to a variety of employee benefits provided by Tucson Medical Center.

The program emphasizes resident well-being and resilience, offering monthly wellness activities and promoting activities that prevent burnout and foster well-being among residents and faculty members.
