University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Regional Centers (South Central) Program

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Regional Centers (South Central) Family Medicine Residency Program is located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. This program is unique as it is the only residency in a 350+ bed hospital. Family physicians supervise the Family Medical Center and the inpatient service. Additionally, local specialists act as consulting faculty and oversee specialty rotations.

Residents in this program have the opportunity to explore the rich outdoor recreational activities in Pine Bluff, known for hunting, fishing, and cultural art and science exhibits at the Arts and Science Center.

Application to the UAMS South Central Regional Campus Family Medicine Residency Program requires meeting specific criteria such as achieving a score of 194+ on USMLE Step 1 & 2/COMLEX 1 & 2 with three attempts or less by the ranking deadline. Applicants are also expected to submit their USMLE/COMLEX transcript, medical school transcript, dean’s letter, three letters of recommendation, among other requirements. International applicants need to have a valid ECFMG certificate if applicable.

This program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and follows ethical guidelines in resident selection. They do not sponsor H-1B or J-1 visa status. Residents must achieve USMLE Step 3 by March 31 of their PGY1 year to advance to the next level.

The curriculum spans three years with each year consisting of thirteen rotations of four-week blocks. Residents rotate through various specialties including internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics, and elective rotations.
