University of California (Irvine) Program

The Pathology Residency Training Program at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is a fully integrated program with affiliations to UC Irvine Medical Center, VA Long Beach Medical Center, Children's Hospital Orange County (CHOC), and Orange County Sheriff's Department. The program offers training, teaching, and research opportunities in both anatomic and clinical pathology. Elective rotations are available year-round, and fellowships are offered in cytopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, hematopathology, neuropathology, and selective surgical pathology.

The primary goal of the program is to prepare residents for high-quality community hospital practice or careers in forensic or academic pathology. Residents are given supervised service responsibilities according to their progress and capabilities. Residents are encouraged to participate in ongoing research activities as pathology heavily relies on research to explore the structural and molecular bases of human disease.
