University of California (San Diego) Medical Center Program

The UC San Diego Comprehensive Epilepsy Center offers a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program aimed at training future leaders in epilepsy care and research. As the only nationally designated Level 4 Adult Epilepsy Center in Southern California, this program provides fellows with the opportunity to work with complex epilepsy cases and become proficient in high-level diagnostic and management techniques.

Fellows will be trained in a multidisciplinary atmosphere where they work alongside experts in various fields of neuroscience, including neurophysiology, neurology, and surgical interventions. The focus of the program is on developing clinical skills necessary for treating patients with drug-resistant epilepsy and those requiring surgical evaluations.

Curriculum

The fellowship curriculum is meticulously structured to offer an extensive exposure to different aspects of epilepsy management. Rotations

During the fellowship, participants will rotate through various settings, including the inpatient epilepsy monitoring unit and outpatient clinics. Interaction with patients with various forms of epilepsy, such as temporal lobe epilepsy and non-epileptic seizures, allows fellows to develop individualized treatment plans.

Application Requirements

Applicants to the program should have completed an accredited neurology residency before the fellowship start date. The program may consider applicants who have graduated from medical school no more than a few years prior to application. Additionally, applicants with a maximum of one failed Step exam are eligible to apply, allowing for a slightly broader candidate pool.
