Here, residents will learn from a high volume of cases in trauma, joint reconstruction, and general orthopaedics, alongside specialized rotations at affiliated institutions like Shriners Hospital for Children and Good Samaritan Hospital.

During their training, residents will also participate in the Kentucky Clinic's sports medicine program, which allows them to gain experience treating athletic injuries and working closely with athletes.

Application Process and Requirements

The program is competitive, attracting a diverse pool of candidates, including DO and IMG applicants. Completion of the USMLE exams is required; however, the program specifically does not impose strict limits on the number of attempts as long as the candidates have passed. Applicants must submit an ERAS application, along with a personal statement, medical school transcripts, a wallet-sized photo, three letters of recommendation, and a Dean's letter.

Foreign medical graduates may require ECFMG sponsorship to facilitate the application process. The program offers visa support for eligible candidates, primarily sponsoring J-1 or H-1B visas during residency.

The residency program’s training sites are meticulously chosen to provide diverse experiences. The primary facility is the UK Chandler Hospital, but residents will also rotate through:

• Shriners Hospital for Children - Lexington
• Good Samaritan Hospital
• VA Medical Center – offering unique experience in veteran care
• Baptist Health - Lexington, providing exposure to community practice dynamics.
