The University of Minnesota Program offers an Independent Interventional Radiology Residency Program that is ACGME-accredited. They participate in the Independent IR Residency match for 2025-2026 and accept applications for ESIR pathway radiology residents for a 1-year position. Diagnostic radiology residents on the ESIR pathway who have completed the first year of IR training at their home institution can directly enter the second year of the Independent Residency. Graduates of the program qualify to take the IR/DR examination offered by the American Board of Radiology.
Application requirements include three letters of recommendations (including one from the Radiology Residency Program Director), Dean's letter (MSPE), personal statement, curriculum vitae, official medical school transcript(s), all USMLE and/or COMLEX scores, and a photograph. The application deadline is December 5.
Eligibility criteria require candidates to be diagnostic radiology residents in good standing at an ACGME-approved program. Applicants must have passed the ABR core exam before entering the Independent IR Residency program. Applicants from non-US radiology training programs must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
ESIR applicants must upload a letter from their PD verifying acceptance into ESIR and block diagrams for all 4 years of DR residency to ERAS. Further documents should be emailed to the Program Administrator Breckyn Avery.
