1

Fellows in this multidisciplinary program will gain exposure to multiple aspects of sleep medicine through diverse rotations including pulmonary medicine, ENT surgery, pediatrics, neurology (including long-term seizure monitoring), dentistry, psychiatry, and cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTi). This allows fellows to develop a robust understanding and expertise in the management and treatment of various sleep disorders.

1

Clinical Training and Research

During clinical training, fellows work directly under experienced physician consultants specializing in pulmonary medicine, adult and pediatric neurology, otolaryngology, dentistry, and psychiatry. They will engage in the treatment and investigation of various sleep disorders in both outpatient and inpatient settings. A key component of the training includes the acquisition of technical skills in performing polysomnography and other sleep studies.

3

The program places a significant emphasis on clinical research. Each fellow is expected to participate in a research project, which may lead to publication and presentation at notable conferences, including the AASM Annual Meeting. Research areas are diverse and can include narcolepsy, psychiatric aspects of sleep disorders, and innovative therapeutic options.

3

Curriculum Structure

The fellowship curriculum is designed to foster essential clinical skills and knowledge. It includes intensive initial training, regular didactic lectures on sleep pathologies, and various conferences. Additional teaching opportunities are available for fellows to instruct medical students and residents, enhancing the educational experience for both fellows and learners.

3

Application Process and Special Requirements

The program accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and is committed to the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applicants must have graduated from an LCME or AOA accredited North American Medical School or possess full ECFMG certification. Notably, the program only accepts applicants with a valid J-1 visa for international medical graduates who are not US citizens. All candidates are required to have passed all three Steps of the USMLE.

2

Visa Support

The fellowship offers support for J-1 visas, which is crucial for international medical graduates. This enables qualified applicants to pursue their training without the constraints that might accompany other visa types.

2

Competitiveness and Application Attributes

This fellowship is highly competitive and favors candidates with a strong academic background and clinical experience in sleep medicine or related fields. Various application requirements must be fulfilled by the time of matriculation, including submission of a curriculum vitae and recommendation letters.

2

Salary and Benefits

Fellows in the program can expect competitive salaries and benefits. Fellows are entitled to twenty (20) weekdays of annual leave, ten (10) sick leave days, and parental leave following childbirth. Additional benefits include options for dental and vision coverage.
