Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Program

The Interventional Radiology Integrated Residency program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center offers two positions per year. This six-year program, including internship, aims to provide a strong foundation in diagnostic radiology and proficient, safe image-guided interventions.

The curriculum includes Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Radiology, and Clinical Management of Patients. Completion of a surgical internship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is required. Residents progress through basic to advanced imaging studies and image-guided interventions. The PGY-5 and PGY-6 years focus on Interventional Radiology service, with clinical rotations in critical care, vascular surgery, hepatology, and medical oncology.

The program emphasizes strong clinical training, graduated autonomy, and a tailored training approach for individual resident interests. Residents gain exposure to various pathologies at a level 1 trauma center, comprehensive cancer center, and pediatric hospital. The program offers diverse clinical experiences, including outpatient clinics and outpatient rotations at specialized centers.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate high academic standing, above-average national board scores, academic honors, or research experience. The application deadline is January 1, 2024. Required documentation includes USMLE Step I & II scores, a CV, ECFMG certification (if applicable), a personal statement, three letters of recommendation, and a current photograph.

The program interviews two residents annually. Foreign Medical Graduates are accepted, with a preference for candidates with U.S. clinical experience. The program supports J-1 Visas, Employment Authorization Documentation (EAD), and green cards for work authorization.

Residents progress through a comprehensive curriculum covering various Interventional Radiology procedures, subspecialties, and clinical experiences. The program includes structured procedural simulation training, teaching sessions, and overnight call responsibilities.
