Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Program

The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has five positions per year and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The program aims to train the next generation of orthopedic surgeons to deliver optimal patient care and advance the field of orthopedics. Residents will treat patients at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, a Level I trauma center serving multiple states.

The curriculum includes rotations in various subspecialties such as pediatric orthopaedic surgery, orthopaedic oncology, sports medicine, and more. Residents have the opportunity to sit for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery certification exams upon completion of the program.

Residents will spend their first year as a categorical orthopaedic surgery intern, followed by four years exclusively in orthopaedic surgery on various subspecialty services. Clinical rotations occur at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and other affiliated locations, offering exposure to a wide range of cases and experiences.

The application process for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program includes a supplemental application in addition to the ERAS application. Applicants must complete the supplemental application by the specified deadline, along with the required documents such as USMLE scores, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. Interviews for the program will be conducted virtually on specific dates.
