Thoracic surgery - Albany, NY | ACGME Code: 4603511056

The Albany Medical Center Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship Program is a rigorous two-year training program designed to lead to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. The program is known for its exceptional cardiac surgery program, having performed many groundbreaking heart procedures, including the first heart transplant and open heart surgery on an infant in the region.

During the fellowship, fellows will rotate at Albany Medical Center and the Stratton VA Medical Center, with both thoracic and cardiac surgery rotations. The program highlights a broad spectrum of pathophysiology, providing exposure to various areas of adult and pediatric cardiac and general thoracic surgery. Fellows will benefit from a comprehensive didactic curriculum, interaction with board-certified faculty specializing in thoracic surgery, and engagement in simulation labs.

To apply, interested candidates must have successfully completed a five-year ACGME-accredited general surgery residency program. The program requires submission of an application through the National Registry Matching Program, including a CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation, dean's letter, diploma, transcript, and ABSITE scores.

For international medical graduates, a valid ECFMG certificate is required, and the program only accepts the J-1 visa. The program coordinator, Patience VanAntwerp, can be contacted for further information.

Albany Medical Center's Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship Program provides a challenging and comprehensive training experience for those pursuing a career in thoracic surgery.
