This one-year ACGME-accredited Colorectal Surgery Fellowship program at Brigham and Women's Hospital prepares physicians for certification by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS). The program offers a comprehensive experience in the surgical treatment of colon, rectal, and anal cancer, as well as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and complex diverticular disease. Residents also receive training in colonoscopy and anorectal surgery, in addition to specialized experiences in pelvic floor treatments.

The program objectives include exposure to a broad range of colorectal disease problems, rich operative experience in minimally invasive and open surgical techniques, and the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical techniques. Residents are expected to engage in a clinical research project during their training.

Didactics and conferences in the program cover various topics, including chapter reviews, journal clubs, conferences on Inflammatory Bowel Disease and GI Cancer, as well as Surgery Morbidity and Mortality Conferences. The program also emphasizes research opportunities, encouraging residents to present at national meetings and engage in scholarly writing.

The teaching facilities are situated in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area in Boston, Massachusetts. The application process for the program requires several standard documents such as CV, letters of recommendation, and USMLE transcripts. The deadline for completed applications is specified as September 1, 2024.
