The Psychiatry Residency Program at Cooper University Health Care is a four-year program that provides a comprehensive training experience in clinical psychiatry. Trainees have the opportunity to rotate through various subspecialty areas such as child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation and liaison psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry.
During the first two years of training, residents focus on hospital-based psychiatry practices with rotations in inpatient, consultation and liaison, and emergency psychiatry, as well as internal medicine and neurology. The following two years highlight outpatient practice with a variety of rotations including adult, child and adolescent, substance use, day programs, geriatrics, and forensics. Research opportunities are available starting from the second year of training.
The program emphasizes a broad range of educational activities such as Grand Rounds, case conferences, journal clubs, and board reviews covering topics in various areas of psychiatry. Eligibility criteria include graduating within the last five years, a minimum score of 5 points above the passing score on USMLE Step 1 & 2, completion of USMLE Step 3 for International Medical Graduates, and one attempt at each exam. The program does not offer spots outside the match or sponsorship for H1 Visas.
