Applicants need to pass the appropriate parts of the USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 & Step 2 exams with no more than 1 fail per exam. Additionally, applicants should have graduated from medical school within the last 3 years unless involved in current active clinical experience with an active medical license. The program does not offer observerships or externships.
The program curriculum spans four years with a focus on a diverse set of rotations and experiences. Residents have opportunities for elective rotations in subspecialties in their fourth year. The program also provides dedicated time for research and quality improvement projects throughout the four-year training. Residents participate in teaching conferences and educational lectures led by faculty members. Monthly grand rounds featuring local and national speakers and morbidity and mortality conferences are also part of the educational framework.
The Lehigh Valley Health Network Psychiatry Residency Program offers a unique combination of academic resources and small-community intimacy. The program's emphasis on comprehensive training, exposure to diverse patient populations, and opportunities for research and leadership development make it an attractive option for aspiring psychiatrists seeking a well-rounded training experience.
