Tower Health/Phoenixville Hospital Program

The Tower Health - Phoenixville Hospital General Psychiatry Residency Training Program is a four-year ACGME accredited program that provides a comprehensive training experience in psychiatry. With a total of 32 positions and approximately 8 residents per training year, the program emphasizes diverse clinical skills across a range of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, consultation-liaison, geriatric, community, substance abuse, and child and adolescent psychiatry.

Curriculum Overview

The residency curriculum is meticulously structured to cover various aspects of psychiatric care and consists of several rotations throughout the training years.

PGY-1 Rotations

The first year consists of four months in internal medicine and two months in adult neurology. Following this, residents participate in a six-month block of psychiatry at Friends Hospital, including emergency psychiatry and inpatient units tailored to adult and transitional age youth.

PGY-2 Rotations

In the second year, residents engage in a mix of inpatient and outpatient settings including a three-month rotation at Coatesville VA Hospital focused on PTSD and substance use disorders, among others. A consultation-liaison psychiatry rotation at Phoenixville Hospital enhances telepsychiatry skills, while residents also gain experience in addiction psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry.

PGY-3 Rotations

The third year is dedicated entirely to outpatient psychiatry, providing residents with a well-rounded exposure to the management of various psychiatric diagnoses.

PGY-4 Rotations

The final year offers a combination of ongoing outpatient care and specialized elective opportunities, allowing residents to further refine their skills and pursue areas of interest. Electives include options such as electroconvulsive therapy, sleep medicine, and neurology.
