Year-by-Year Breakdown

PGY-1: The initial year focuses on perioperative management, with residents predominantly stationed at Lankenau Medical Center. A night float system is employed to maximize continuity of care for patients.

PGY-2: This year emphasizes critical care, involving rotations at both the Main Line Health's Bryn Mawr Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Operative experience is substantially developed, allowing residents to function in critical roles.

PGY-3: Residents spend enhanced time in general surgery at Lankenau, alongside pediatric surgery and further rotations at Bryn Mawr Hospital. This phase aims to refine surgical techniques and knowledge across several modalities.

PGY-4: As senior residents, this year is dedicated to an increased leadership role within the surgical departments while still engaging in elective rotations to explore personal interests and advanced fellowship opportunities.

Training Locations and Resources

In addition to Lankenau Medical Center, residents also experience training at Bryn Mawr Hospital and the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania. Application and Admission Requirements

The program offers four categorical positions, with specific requirements for both U.S. and International Medical Graduates (IMGs). U.S. Medical Graduates need a Dean's letter, three letters of recommendation, medical school transcripts, a personal statement, a CV formatted for ERAS, and USMLE Step 1 and 2 passing scores of 225 or above on the first attempt. International Medical Graduates must possess an ECFMG certificate and a USMLE Step 1 and 2 score of at least 235, with graduation from medical school occurring within the last three years and a minimum of six months of U.S. clinical experience.
