Lehigh Valley Health Network Program

This surgery program at Lehigh Valley Health Network offers a fully accredited five-year general surgery residency that prepares graduates for independent practice and board certification in general surgery. The program includes six categorical positions and two preliminary positions. The curriculum covers a wide range of general surgery components with structured didactic sessions, clinical experiences, and research opportunities.

Residents benefit from a variety of conference formats, including surgical grand rounds, mortality and morbidity conference, and curriculum conferences, providing a comprehensive educational experience. The program provides hands-on practice with simulators and porcine specimens, along with a night-float system to meet duty hour requirements.

Residents have the opportunity to engage in clinical research projects, with resources available for support. LVHN has an ACS-accredited Surgical Education Center and supports attendance at regional or national educational conferences.

The program's faculty includes general surgeons and surgical specialists, each leading specialized divisions within the department. Residents have opportunities to engage in various surgical specialties, including cardiothoracic surgery, colon and rectal surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and more.

For application instructions, the program accepts eight applicants annually via ERAS, with an application deadline set for October 15th. Interviews are conducted in the fall and winter.

The program provides comprehensive resident operative experiences across diverse categories, exceeding the RRC's minimum required numbers for various surgical procedures. Lastly, residents get opportunities to present research at national and regional meetings.
