The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and Wayne State University (WSU) offer a combined Pediatrics and Medical Genetics and Genomics four-year residency program. This integrated approach allows residents to apply for board-certifying examinations in both pediatrics and clinical genetics upon completing their training. The Children's Hospital of Michigan serves as the training site, offering over 40 pediatric specialties and sub-specialties.

During the program, residents will rotate through various medical genetics services at Children's Hospital of Michigan and other on-campus DMC hospitals, allowing for a comprehensive education in genetics and genomics.

The program consists of 13 four-week rotations, split between pediatric and genetics rotations. Residents will also have the opportunity for research/electives, enabling them to tailor their training based on their career goals. Additionally, residents will participate in general pediatric continuity clinics and genetics rotations.

Applicants must have graduated from an approved medical school, pass USMLE Steps 1 and 2, and apply through ERAS to the Combined Pediatrics-Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency Program at Children's Hospital of Michigan. International medical graduates must have a valid ECFMG certificate.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are expected to sit for certification examinations in Clinical Genetics through ABMGG and Pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics. The program participates in the NRMP Combined Pediatrics-Medical Genetics and Genomics Match.

Graduates from this program typically pursue medical biochemical genetics fellowships and are employed in institutions across the United States.
