The MaineHealth Maine Medical Center (MHMMC) neurology residency program is committed to training the next generation of neurologists in a supportive and innovative learning environment. Residents will encounter a variety of conditions across major sub-specialties such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuro-oncology, headaches, and dementia. The program places a strong emphasis on the importance of individualized education, encouraging residents to identify and pursue their unique interests within neurology.

Curriculum: The curriculum is carefully structured to provide residents with a robust foundation in both general and specialized neurology. The residency includes a sampling of rotations that cover diverse neurologic conditions, preparing residents for various subspecialty areas. Throughout the program, significant emphasis is placed on teaching, assessment, and resident engagement in the learning process.

The Block Schedule Curriculum offers flexible rotations focused on subspecialties and core aspects of general neurology. Each block is four weeks long, allowing residents to adapt and gain deeper experience in their chosen fields of interest. For instance, residents will rotate through the Comprehensive Stroke Center, Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, and specialized outpatient clinics, among others 1.

Application Process: The program has specific application requirements for prospective residents. Applicants must complete the ERAS application, submit their medical school transcripts, USMLE or COMLEX scores, a Dean's Letter (MSPE), and three letters of recommendation. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must possess ECFMG certification. The program only sponsors J-1 visas. In general, candidates should be aware that the residency may be competitive, but IMGs and DOs are encouraged to apply and are considered in the selection process 3.
