PGY1: Focuses on foundational obstetrical skills, including normal vaginal deliveries and basic ultrasonography. Residents spend time in the emergency department and special care units, learning to manage critically ill patients.
1PGY2: This year emphasizes surgical experience in obstetrics and gynecological procedures, with rotation through gynecologic oncology and family planning services.
1PGY3: Residents manage high-risk pregnancies on the antepartum service and continue to refine their skills in gynecologic oncology, with a focus on developing surgical competence.
1PGY4: Senior residents take a leadership role during rotations and are responsible for overseeing junior residents and medical students. They also engage more deeply in gynecologic surgery and outpatient care.
1Research Opportunities
Each resident is mandated to conduct an independent research project, beginning in the first year. The program offers resources including access to an epidemiologist and research faculty to support residents in achieving publication-caliber projects.
1Bypass Obstetric Training
In addition to surgical training, the residency includes extensive outpatient-focused training, encompassing experiences in family planning, reproductive endocrinology, pediatric gynecology, and other allied fields.
1Competitiveness and Application Requirements
The residency program is recognized for being relatively competitive, welcoming both MD and DO applicants. The program supports international medical graduates (IMGs) and sponsors J-1 visas only; F-1 visa holders are not eligible. For applicants, a valid USMLE Step 1 score is required, with COMLEX scores also accepted. The application process requires three letters of recommendation, including one standard letter of evaluation.
