The McLaren Health Care/Oakland/MSU Anesthesiology Residency Program has specific eligibility requirements for applicants. All applicants must have graduated from medical school within the past 5 years from a recognized medical school in the United States, Canada, or other countries with a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
Required documents for application include the medical school transcript, personal statement, curriculum vitae, eligibility to work status, three letters of recommendation, Dean's Letter of Reference, and passing scores on COMLEX 1 and 2, and/or USMLE 1 and 2. The minimum score requirements include passing USMLE Step 1 with a score of 228 and COMLEX Step 2 CK with a score of 240. Applicants must have passed all required steps in the first attempt or show significant improvement if scores are below the specified thresholds.
The program does not sponsor visas for applicants. Interviews are conducted virtually, and applicants meeting the selection criteria will be contacted via email starting in January. Criteria for selection include clinical performance, performance on standardized medical tests, academic performance, research and publication experiences, clinical training, professionalism, and interest in pursuing a career in Anesthesiology.
All residents must have an appropriate training license consistent with state and local requirements during their training. Licenses will be held in the Department of Medical Education at the teaching site, and applicants unable to obtain a State of Michigan license cannot be considered for McLaren GME programs.
