Curriculum Overview

• Internal Medicine Inpatient - 2 blocks
• Orthopaedic Surgery - 1 block
• Infectious Diseases - 1 block
• Emergency Medicine - 1 block
• Family Medicine - 1 block
• Cardiology Inpatient - 1 block
• ICU - 1 block
• OB/GYN Inpatient - 1 block at McLaren Flint
• ENT | Urology - 1 block (2 weeks each)
• Pediatric Emergency Medicine - 1 block at DMC Children's Hospital
• General Surgery - 1 block
• Radiology - 1 block
• Pediatric Outpatient - 2 blocks at McLaren Oakland or Lapeer Pediatrics
• Sports Medicine - 1 block
• Ophthalmology - 1 block
• Surgical Sub-Specialty Selective - 1 block
• Electives - 4 blocks

Additionally, residents have the opportunity to engage in structured didactics every Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. These sessions include lectures, procedure workshops, and board reviews, ensuring that residents continuously hone their skills and knowledge.

Lifestyle Medicine Training

Residents also receive disciplines in Lifestyle Medicine through the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, integrating nutrition, stress management, and exercise into their primary care practices. Application Process

The McLaren Oakland Family Medicine Residency adheres to several eligibility criteria for applicants. Candidates must be proficient in English and recent graduates from a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), or possess a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate if graduating from a foreign medical school.

No visas are sponsored by the program, which may limit opportunities for international medical graduates seeking placement.
