The Urology Residency Program at Naval Medical Center San Diego is a 6-year ACGME accredited program that provides a comprehensive training experience in both general surgery and urology. The program consists of two years in general surgery followed by four years in urology, with two residents admitted per year level.
This program emphasizes producing graduates who meet the professional excellence standards set by the American Board of Urology and aims to prepare military surgeons for the high operational tempo of today's military environment.

Each resident is expected to engage in ongoing research and produce at least two published articles by the end of the program. The faculty actively participate in research projects with the residents.
The program maintains a remarkable track record of a 100% pass rate over the last decade on Parts I and II of the American Board of Urology exams. Additionally, more than 50% of graduating residents have pursued fellowship training, with many continuing their involvement in academic pursuits.
The department's staff specializes in areas such as male infertility, laparoscopy, minimally invasive da Vinci robotic surgery, pediatric urology, urologic oncology, female genital and pelvic reconstructive surgery, and general urology.
