The NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Surgical Residency Program prioritizes resident growth and development by providing a fully structured didactic program and opportunities for clinical research. Residents receive exposure to all aspects of general surgery and major surgical specialties. The program offers high operative volume, dedicated faculty, diverse hospital and patient community, and majority of clinical rotations at one site.
Application to the program requires completion of the ERAS application, USMLE scores of 220 or higher on the first attempt, Dean's letter, official medical school transcript, personal statement, curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation. The program offers 5 categorical general surgery positions and 6 undesignated preliminary positions for the 2023-2024 academic year.
NewYork-Presbyterian Queens stopped sponsoring new incoming H1 visas in 2013 but continues to sponsor J1 visas. U.S. clinical experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Residents receive extensive training in treating a wide range of clinical problems, with exposure to general surgery material and performing surgical procedures within various specialty areas.
