The OhioHealth/Riverside Methodist Hospital Psychiatry Residency program is the newest program in the state of Ohio, aiming to produce practice-ready physicians skilled in inpatient and outpatient care. The program offers all four levels of training starting in the academic year 2022-2023.
The residency program at Riverside Methodist Hospital is committed to providing a well-rounded clinical experience in psychiatry, with additional opportunities for specialized training in areas such as neuromodulation (ECT and TMS), integrated care psychiatry, telepsychiatry, emergency psychiatry, palliative medicine, geriatric psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry. Residents can also choose elective opportunities to tailor their learning experiences.
The curriculum follows ACGME-recommended rotations and didactics, including a hospice and palliative care rotation with nationally-recognized hospice faculty. There are opportunities for forensics electives and mental health advocacy. The program aims to be resident-friendly while preparing residents to be confident, practicing psychiatrists with a healthy work-life balance.
Residents can expect extensive resources within OhioHealth hospitals and the behavioral health department, providing superior training opportunities. The program emphasizes direct patient care with mentorship from psychiatric experts and interdisciplinary team members, along with multidisciplinary teams, didactic sessions, case-based group learning, simulated patient experiences, and mental health advocacy activities.
The teaching settings include OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, a community teaching tertiary referral center, and OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, an urban surgical and Level I trauma teaching hospital. Additionally, there are elective opportunities at various other OhioHealth hospitals. The program also focuses on mentorship and experiences to enhance teaching and leadership skills.
