The Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is led by Dr. T. Shane Johnson, the chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery, and Dr. John Ingraham, the residency program director.
The program offers a comprehensive educational experience with opportunities to participate in various subspecialty clinics, such as hand surgery, skin oncology, cosmetic surgery, craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, and vascular anomalies. Residents are actively involved in research activities and are expected to publish and present at academic plastic surgery meetings.
The Plastic Surgery Residency program at Penn State has a competitive application process. They receive around 250 completed applications and grant interviews to 30 applicants for the two categorical positions. To apply to the Plastic Surgery Residency at Penn State, interested candidates must register with NRMP and complete the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) submissions. Foreign medical graduates must hold a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to be appointed. The program accepts J-1 training visas for non-U.S. citizens entering ACGME training programs.
