St. Agnes Medical Center (Fresno) Program

Saint Agnes Medical Center hosts an Emergency Medicine residency program that is structured to train competent emergency physicians. The program received its ACGME Initial Accreditation in April 2020 and continued accreditation in August 2022, with its inaugural class of Emergency Medicine Interns matched in March 2021. This three-year residency program operates within a community-based emergency department located in Fresno, California, which manages approximately 90,000 patient visits annually. Curriculum Overview

Simulation training occurs monthly at the program's established simulation center, which is designed to enhance decision-making skills and clinical reasoning among residents. Notably, the program has incorporated a Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) training component within its curriculum, offering cutting-edge experience in this critical area of emergency medicine.

Clinical Rotations
The residency training spans three years, organized into a total of 13 four-week blocks annually. Most rotations take place at Saint Agnes Medical Center, with specific rotations at Valley Children's Healthcare for pediatric training and UCSF Fresno CRMC as a Level 1 Trauma Center. The rotation schedule is as follows:
Year 1: Includes 8 blocks in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care/ICU, Trauma (off-site), Obstetrics/Gynecology, Anesthesia, and Orthopedics.
Year 2: Focuses on further skill enhancement, incorporating Emergency Medicine, Critical Care/ICU, Pediatric ICU (off-site), Pediatric Emergency Medicine (off-site), and EMS rotations.
Year 3: Emphasizes administrative roles, elective choices, and research opportunities.

Application Requirements
The application process is centralized through ERAS, with all applicants required to submit a completed ERAS application, a dean's letter, a minimum of one emergency medicine letter of recommendation, a personal statement, medical school transcripts, and COMLEX or USMLE transcripts. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must also provide a status letter from the Medical Board of California. Saint Agnes Medical Center is recognized as a competitive program and caters to a diverse pool of applicants, including an openness to IMGs and the acceptance of both MD and DO candidates.

Visa Sponsorship and Support
Saint Agnes Medical Center supports J-1 visa sponsorship for international applicants. However, it does not sponsor H1-B visas. All applicants must possess a valid work permit to be considered.

Compensation and Benefits
Annual stipends for residents in this program are competitive, with PGY-1 residents earning approximately $70,573, PGY-2 at $73,011, and PGY-3 at $75,567.
