The St. Luke’s Anderson Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a new three-year ACGME-approved program that matched its first class of residents in July 2021. The program aims to train outstanding community clinicians who are prepared to function effectively in any emergency department (ED) environment. Residents are provided with a supportive, family-like environment within the larger St. Luke’s University Health Network. The curriculum is designed to equip residents with the skills necessary to be efficient, capable, and compassionate clinicians.

The program offers a diverse clinical experience with rotations at multiple campuses within the St. Luke’s system, as well as at academic tertiary/Level I Trauma Centers like the Bethlehem campus and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Residents gain exposure to suburban, rural, and urban ER environments to become adaptive clinicians. The educational program includes faculty-led teaching and mentorship, an innovative curriculum incorporating a variety of teaching methods, and exposure to various specialties such as toxicology, EMS, critical care, pediatrics, trauma, and ultrasound.

Faculty members are experienced educators with expertise in different areas like medical simulation, ultrasound, toxicology, EMS, and research. The program also offers fellowship opportunities in various fields such as Addiction Medicine, Emergency Medical Services, Pain Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Surgical Critical Care.

The Anderson Campus of St. Luke’s University Health Network is located in the Lehigh Valley and provides a vibrant setting for training, featuring state-of-the-art technology and amenities. The campus has an organic farm, walking trails, and advanced education and research facilities to support graduate medical education programs.

The program requires applicants to apply through ERAS, and selected candidates will be invited for interviews. The interview process offers both in-person and virtual options to accommodate applicants' preferences. The salary structure is competitive, and residents have noted the lower cost of living in the Lehigh Valley compared to larger cities.

Overall, the St. Luke’s Anderson Emergency Medicine Residency Program offers a comprehensive training experience in a supportive environment that prepares residents to excel in diverse emergency medicine settings.
