The Stamford Hospital/Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons General Surgery Residency program is ACGME accredited and has been training residents since 1958. They currently have 5 interns and 3 residents per year. The program offers broad training in general surgery and surgical subspecialties such as bariatric, breast, colorectal, pediatric, plastic, thoracic, vascular, surgical oncology, trauma surgery, and surgical critical care.
Residents have access to a wide variety of surgical procedures with no competing fellowships. The program includes rotations at various esteemed institutions like the Connecticut Burn Center, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and University of Maryland Institute of Shock Trauma.
