The Stanford Health Care-Sponsored Stanford University Program offers an Independent Interventional Radiology (IR) Residency Program, which is ACGME accredited. This program provides 1 or 2 years of dedicated IR training after completion of a diagnostic radiology (DR) residency. It accepts DR residents who have successfully completed Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) in their second or final year of training.

Graduates of the Independent IR Residency program at Stanford will be eligible to obtain a dual IR-DR certificate from the American Board of Radiology. The program exposes trainees to a wide range of complex cases and offers a robust educational curriculum in image-guided interventions. It includes training at various medical centers like the Palo Alto VA Hospital, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, and outpatient Interventional Radiology Clinics.

For application to the program, they are accepting applications to fill 3 Independent IR residency positions through the NRMP Match. Both ESIR and non-ESIR applicants are welcome. Application materials should be submitted via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and include a personal statement, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, USMLE Step I, II, & III Scores, and a color photograph. ESIR applicants need to provide ESIR verification documents specified for the application process.
