The MetroHealth System/Case Western Reserve University Program

The Pediatric Residency program at The MetroHealth System/Case Western Reserve University provides a comprehensive three-year experience focused on community and primary care pediatrics. The program is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, offering residents exposure to teaching alliances with renowned institutions such as Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, and Akron Children's Hospital.

Application to the program is open to graduates of medical schools in the United States and other countries. They offer eight categorical intern pediatric positions annually through the National Residency Matching Program and support six additional positions in the combined Medicine/Pediatrics program. Interested applicants are required to submit a complete ERAS application, USMLE Step 1 score with application, Step 2 score by February 15th, personal statement, dean's letter, transcript, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation. International Medical Graduates must have an ECFMG Certificate for application.

The program's curriculum is designed to develop strong pediatricians ready for the community through integrated training in pediatric behavioral and mental health, cultural competency, and management of acute and chronic illnesses. Residents have access to various teaching clinics and specialized rotations in hospitals like Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital, Akron Children's Hospital, and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. The educational experience includes morning reports, pediatric grand rounds, didactics, board review sessions, morbidity and mortality conferences, mock code simulations, journal clubs, and interprofessional training.

The program also offers unique features such as integrated pediatric behavioral training, a Hispanic Clinic serving diverse patient populations, a Comprehensive Care Division for children with special health needs, robust acute illness management training, and support for critical thinking and research.
