Tulane University Program

The Tulane University School of Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program emphasizes diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice within the medical profession. It works to address and mitigate the effects of racism and sexism in medicine through its Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, established in 2019. The curriculum covers General Obstetrics and Gynecology across all rotations during the four-year residency, with increasing responsibility for patient care to develop resident autonomy.

Tulane promises comprehensive training aimed at producing not only outstanding clinical practitioners but also academic leaders in Obstetrics & Gynecology. This includes fostering research prowess, educational excellence, clinical distinction, and development of leadership skills.

For resident wellness and work-life balance, the program enforces ACGME work hour limitations, ensuring residents do not exceed 80 hours per week, averaged over a four-week period. It offers a range of benefits including health insurance, life, disability, and malpractice insurance coverage, vacation and sick leave, free parking, meal tickets during on-call hours, and free pagers and lab coats. Childcare is provided through Kidopolis for residents and staff.

The program's mission aligns with developing residents into socially responsible leaders in women’s health, emphasizing autonomy, responsibility, and stewardship.

Application to the residency is through ERAS, requiring an ERAS application, personal statement, transcript, Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), USMLE scores (with Step 1 taken before applying and Step 2 results submitted before ranking), 3 Letters of Recommendation, and a Letter from the Chairman of the Department of Ob/Gyn of the applicant's medical school.
