Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is designed for comprehensive resident training across various facets of obstetrics and gynecology. In the initial year, residents participate in dedicated rotations in obstetrics and gynecology, supplemented with additional experiences in OB/GYN ultrasound as well as blocks in the Emergency Department, Pediatrics, and Ambulatory Medicine. By the end of the first year, residents begin to transition into more specialized roles during PGY2, where they assume greater responsibilities and are expected to showcase competency in both obstetric and gynecologic services. 4

As residents progress to PGY3, they gain proficiency in major gynecologic procedures and the management of fetal complications, supported by intensive rotations in Maternal Fetal Medicine and GYN Oncology. The senior year (PGY4) positions residents in chief roles where they manage complex cases and administrative responsibilities while preparing for board examinations and culminating their research projects. This structured progression ensures residents develop into adept providers of obstetrics and gynecology. 6

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center serves as the primary training site, featuring facilities equipped with advanced technology and amenities, including a well-designed Labor and Delivery suite comprising 11 labor-dedicated rooms, 6 triage rooms, and multiple operating suites. Besides inpatient services, the Family Health Center houses outpatient facilities, offering comprehensive care utilizing state-of-the-art resources including advanced ultrasound capabilities. 1

Resident Benefits and Support

The program offers a competitive compensation package with a structured salary scale based on postgraduate year, in addition to benefits such as health insurance, meal allowances, and annual allowances for board review expenses and conference participation. Residents also receive two lab coats per year and access to counseling services. 3

While the program is located in a prominent metropolitan area, it features a competitive residency selection process. However, the program does not sponsor visa applicants, limiting its availability to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
