The LSU Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program in Baton Rouge offers a comprehensive four-year curriculum aimed at training physician leaders who are compassionate, respectful, and competent obstetricians and gynecologists. Upon completion of the program, residents will master the six core competencies outlined by the ACGME, which include patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice. Residents also become robotic surgery certified upon meeting graduation requirements.
This program admits four residents at each level and residents remain in Baton Rouge for the entirety of their instruction. The training is structured to provide extensive clinical experiences across various specialties. The curriculum involves rotations in obstetrics and gynecology, maternal fetal medicine, radiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and NICU in the first year. Subsequent years focus on obstetrics, subspecialty experiences in maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, and minimally invasive surgery including vaginal, laparoscopic, and robotic assisted procedures.
The LSU Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program emphasizes developing highly effective clinicians, surgeons, teachers, and leaders. Residents receive weekly structured protected time for didactics, including Grand Rounds, Preoperative conferences, Morbidity and Mortality conferences, Journal Club, Lectures, and Simulation Labs. Additionally, various hospital-based conferences such as tumor board and breast conference, along with CME opportunities, are regularly scheduled.
Residents of this program have the opportunity to gain maximum experience in a dynamic healthcare setting at Woman's Hospital, Louisiana's largest birthing facility that delivers more than 8,000 babies annually.
