• 7 months of inpatient adult consultation service across four hospitals.

• 1 month in long-term care and inpatient hospice.
• 0.5 month serving in an inpatient pediatric consultation service.
• 1 month of electives and scholarly time.

This structure ensures a well-rounded exposure to various clinical settings including academic centers, VA hospitals, and community-based palliative care services.

Didactic Curriculum

Fellows are scheduled for 2-4 hours weekly of protected didactic sessions, focused on core palliative care topics and led by experienced faculty. These sessions facilitate an interactive learning environment that fosters comprehensive understanding through lectures, discussions, and simulations. Topics included cover everything from communication and symptom management to leadership in health systems.

Resiliency Curriculum

Highlighting mental well-being, the resiliency curriculum spans over 40 hours, preparing fellows to deal with the emotional demands of palliative care. Participants engage in mindfulness practices, self-reflection, and discussions addressing moral distress, promoting a balanced approach to their professional roles.

Special Application Requirements

The program has specific admission criteria, and fellows are required to have completed prerequisite medical training. The application process is competitive, with fellowships available through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
