University of Kentucky College of Medicine Program

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Pediatrics Residency Program aims to instill excellence in patient care and medical education. Residents receive a strong foundation in general pediatrics with the goal of preparing them for future career paths such as fellowship training, private practice, or academic medicine. The program is housed at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital, a referral center serving a diverse pediatric patient population with a wide range of illnesses.

The program at UK offers three combined training opportunities: Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Child Psychiatry, and Child Neurology. A notable aspect of the program is the collaborative environment among residents in all training programs. Residents have access to various educational resources, including weekly didactics, board review sessions, Sim Lab, and mock code workshops. Additionally, residents engage in quality improvement projects, scholarly activities, and have the chance to attend local and national academic meetings.

Residents are encouraged to actively contribute to program improvements by participating in committees such as the Residency Curriculum Committee, Graduate Medical Education Council, and the Advocacy Committee. Educational opportunities extend beyond clinical training, with programs focused on child advocacy and international health initiatives. Residents can partake in advocacy projects and travel to countries like Ecuador, Ethiopia, Kenya, and India to provide healthcare to underserved children. Selected residents may also opt for a global health track within the program.
