University of Minnesota Program

The University of Minnesota Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program is designed to produce outstanding board-certified radiologists who can practice effectively in a variety of settings. The program offers diverse patient and disease exposure at various hospitals, including oncology and transplant-rich university hospitals, a level 1 trauma center, a large urban county hospital, and a veterans hospital. Residents have opportunities for research, professional society involvement, and administrative experience. The program emphasizes outstanding patient care as a top priority.

Application requirements for eligibility include good standing at an American or Canadian medical school approved by the American Medical Association, completion of an approved rotating or straight internship, and specific licensure or certification requirements for graduates of foreign medical schools. The program offers an Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) designation pathway. Residents are encouraged to participate in educational opportunities and leadership roles within the program.

Residents have exposure to a variety of rotations at the University of Minnesota, Masonic Children's Hospital, Hennepin Healthcare, and Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Didactic schedules include weekly core lectures, noon conferences, and a physics didactic series. Residents have opportunities for team building and wellness through various committees, clubs, and mentorship programs.

The program encourages resident involvement in research and supports residents presenting abstracts or papers at national meetings. Residents are also involved in practice quality improvement projects to enhance the delivery of healthcare within the department.
